a garden

“pray that we would know God sees us,” i told my sister. i needed it because it doesn’t always seem that He does.

and then i came home from work to find a small pot of pansies, and found out that his hands had filled the pot with dirt, and had placed the flowers, and have covered them back in with soil.

“ian what do you want to do to help larissa?” his occupational therapist asked.

“plant her flowers. and a garden”

he didn’t know what i had been thinking the week before, while i was looking at the empty beds. they were filled with wood chips but i knew that had potenial. i also knew i just didn’t have time and just didn’t know how to do it right. i didn’t understand plants that much and didn’t know how to get the soil right or figure out the amount of sun that cilantro and basil would need.

and then ian told the therapist about the garden. and he didn’t know i had been thinking that i wanted one. he wasn’t outside watching me while i looked at the beds.

but God saw it.

and God put it on Ian’s heart.

and through the person that means the most to me, God showed me that He sees me.

and i believe nothing but that it’s because He heard those weak prayers, prayers that i would believe that He sees me.

someday soon the flowers that he potted will continue to grow and the plants that will fill the beds will shoot to reach the sun and i will know that i am seen.

this touched my heart tonight because I too sometimes think that God doesn’t see me or hear me. You posts so often touch my heart. You don’t know me, I found you through my cousin’s daughter, Melissa Swihart, and have been following your journey for several months. Countless second chances we’ve been given at the cross – that’s the first thing that touch me and has taught me about giving others second chances, time after time. Praying for both of you as you continue your journey of love.

  3. Having once walked a similar road to yours, I know the feeling of wondering if God is seeing us sometimes. What is truly beautiful is that your heart and mind are open to see the answers when He shows them to you. You could have just come home and thought how nice it was that Ian planted some flowers for you. So sweet. But you saw the bigger picture. I love that. That’s no small thing when your life is busy and stressful and hard on a daily basis. He sees, and He cares. Never doubt it.

  4. How often have I prayed that prayer too, Larissa – that we would know He sees us. I’m so grateful for the seeds He planted in Ian’s heart of the seeds that Ian would plant in your garden.

  8. Yes, He does see you. He sees us. Very encouraging.

  9. This is beautiful. Praise God for the way He sees and loves.

  10. I had the same experience not long ago. A friend had experienced a miraculous answer to prayer, and it filled me with self-pity. “How long has it been since I had such a specific answer to prayer? Does God really see me?” I asked myself. However, I very weakly prayed for an answer to prayer that would show me that God saw me. That evening, he answered that prayer. It was beyond doubt and it showed me that he cared not only for me, but for others around me as well. He really is the God who sees.

  11. Proof that both God and Ian love you very, very much.
