I was thinking today that it would be really cool to be able to read to Ian a list of the people who are reading this blog and praying for him. So, if you read the blog and pray for Ian, leave a comment on this post with your name and where you’re from. I think it would be very encouraging for him as well as for us.
Thank you again for praying.

Ian, Larissa and Murphy family and friends,
Just wanted to leave a note that I continue to check the blog and continue to pray for Ian’s full recovery.
I’ve been reading the posts lately about motivation and I can’t imagine what Ian is going through.
Our church is going through the book of Exodus and today Pete carefully drew out truths like drawing water from a deep well. He spoke about God’s patience and single vision to complete his promises and his work to free Israel for Himself even when Moses and the people of Israel were reluctant prior to the exodus. Over 10 signs of God’s power and justice and while each one must have built up the faith of Moses and the people, still after every sign, until the last, it did not change the Israelites’ state.
I just share that to encourage you Ian and everyone that continue to stand firm in your faith. Wait for the Lord to act on your behalf. Each sign of Ian’s progress is an evidence of God’s grace and patience in the work he’s doing in Ian’s life. And God will complete his work. He nevers leaves things unfinished.
This quote also comes to mind and has spoken to me this past week:
“Waiting for the Lord isn’t about God forgetting you, forsaking you, or being unfaithful to his promises. It’s actually God giving you time to consider his glory and to grow stronger in faith. Remember, waiting isn’t just about what you’re hoping for at the end of the wait, but also about what you’ll become as you wait.” – Paul Tripp on his blog
Waiting and trusting with you all,
Sara Rankin

There is an amazing God ! I will never be the person I once was but amazing things can happen if we step out for God from where we are right now. I've been following your progress and praying for you and Larissa along the way. Hi Ian and Larissa! Your video came up on my news feed on Facebook, and I found/messaged Carolyn on Facebook to tell her how beautiful your story was. Then she gave me your blog! My dad was involved in a car accident which resulted in him having a severe enclosed head injury. My mom and dad had been dating for a little while before the accident, and were married somewhat shortly after his accident as well. Then 7 years later I was born! (I'm 21 now, so that was quite some time ago). Your story was oddly similar to my parents (although the circumstances were a lot different), so similar that I was crying. Not with sadness. but with great joy! I've seen the Lord work in my life through everything as I was growing up and even still this day, and it brings me joy to see Him using your story and testimony to impact lives for His kingdom! It's a long road, and it's never easy. Life in general is never easy, but as long as you continue to seek Jesus, everything that we experience seems so small compared to what He experienced here! Use every day as an opportunity to grow in your relationship with him and faithfulness in him through what is thrown at you! You two are a beautiful couple, with an incredible story, and I really am so blessed by it. Thank you for the willingness to open up your lives and share everything! If you'd ever like to talk, I would LOVE that! (if you have Facebook, you can search my name and easily find me!). Praying for you every day especially about the things that come along with it that most don't understand!
Your sister in Christ,
Britney Zurovetz – Arlington, TX

I’m still praying for the day when I open this blog and see “Ian has spoken – he’s awake.” But in the meantime I continue to be amazed at the faith shared on this blog by the Murphys, Larissa and the Altrogges. Ian, I don’t know if you remember me, but I am from CrossWay Church of Lancaster and my daughter, Nicole, met you and Larissa at New Attitude last year. Maybe you won’t be able to tell us everything, but I sure know you are with the Lord and He is healing you. We ALL pray for the wonderful day when you will be completely healed! Ian, Steve and Mary, and the whole extended family,
Eileen B. has faithfully relayed highlights for many of us in the Philadelphia area. While I personally have been silent – all of you have frequently been in my prayers. The testimony of how the Lord has upheld each of you speaks a powerful message to those who are listening. Given that I grew up in the faith with both Steve and Mary, and my own children are not much younger in age – I have been often captivated by your thoughts and how you each have seen the Lord’s leading. I have both prayed and listened with the heart of an overwhelmed parent. I am praying for each of you – that the tender nearness of our Heavenly Father would be the strongest when you are overwhelmed and weak. This has been my experience – and I will continue in prayer for you all.

Because of our work on the mission video, I often travel and work with David and he is constant reminder to me of you. We prayed for you a great deal when we were in Bolivia last month. Although we cant keep up with the blog the way we could a few months ago now that I am commuting further and Brennon is demanding more of Christie’s time we are nevertheless encouraged by all that God is doing in your lives and the glory of Christ that is displayed in all the posts. We more often get second hand news which can be all the more encouraging because of the emotion that comes through in the caring voice of people who care very much for Ian. I pray now that the Holy Spirit would guide many to pray more often and more fervently for Ian, including myself and in unison with everyone else who is praying, that our LORD would heal him fully before this day ends. Praise be to God in ALL things.

Larissa,
Gods greatness is illustrated in the unshaken faith that you, Ians parents, his family, & his friends have shown on this blog. It is so encouraging and profound to me how you all react, staying level-headed, continually trusting in God, and persisting to keep knocking on his door to heal Ian. Its surreal to me that I can witness Gods grace, in the fact that I never imagined that I could care so much about and miss someone that I have never even met. In Christ, all things are possible. I feel that one of the most awesome things is that Ian has helped me, someone hes never met, grow in my faith and learn to better put all my trust in the Lord. That is magnificent to me. I pray that the Lord completely heals & restores Ian physically, mentally, emotionally, personality-wise, & of course spiritually. Ian, you, & the Murphys are in my prayers everyday. You guys are moving mountains & touching so many peoples lives. Stay strong, stand firm, & continue trusting in our always loving, ever merciful, & forever faithful Lord God.

Thank you everyone for posting on this blog. It has been a tremendous encouragement to myself. Thank you for the example of trusting God and obeying him in faith in the early darkest days and days now when it seems the sun is waiting to burst forth.
Ian, I’m praying for you to wake up but only when God wakes you. It is encouraging to see the work God has done in a short amount of time and it spurs on even more prayers. But we desire a complete healing Lord because we think that will bring you the most glory.
Psalm 109:21,26,27
But you, O God my Lord,
deal on Ian’s behalf for your name’s sake; because your steadfast love is good, deliver Ian!

Ian caught a ride on my airport shuttle and I got to talk w/ him the whole way. He made a huge impact on me. Thanks for the way you keep him before the Lord in prayer.
With love and prayer – Bryce from Maryland.

Our now 27 yr old son was injured in a skiing accident 5 years ago and your journey is one that has closely paralleled our own. [even the addition to your home is similar to the one we had to build.]

I Will Lift My Eyes Lyrics
(Bebo Norman)
God, my God, I cry out
Your beloved needs You now
God, be near, calm my fear
And take my doubt
Your kindness is what pulls me up
Your love is all that draws me in
I will lift my eyes to the Maker
Of the mountains I cant climb
I will lift my eyes to the Calmer
Of the oceans raging wild
I will lift my eyes to the Healer
Of the hurt I hold inside
I will lift my eyes, lift my eyes to You
God, my God, let Mercy sing
Her melody over me
God, right here all I bring
Is all of me
Cause You are and You were and You will be forever
The Lover I need to save me
Cause You fashioned the earth and You hold it together, God
So hold me now

Ian was my family group leader at Na last year and I work with Steve. I read this blog every day and pray often for Ian as well as for his family and for you, Larissa. Your steadfast faith in God as you have walked through this never ceases to amaze me. I know that I cannot imagine responding to this trial in the way that you have because I am not experiencing God’s grace in the measure that you are. God is certainly supplying you with the exact amount of grace needed for this exact situation.
I entered into a courtship myself three months ago which has enabled me to better understand the love that you feel for Ian and has also made me stand more in awe at how well you have trusted God through this storm. I am often amazed at the posts you write and wonder if I would respond the same way if God asked me to walk through what you are walking through. It is so easy to make an idol out of a relationship with someone. Thank you for your example and inspiration to hold loosely to everything and everyone here on earth and to cherish God and those things that are eternal above all.

I met Ian during freshman/sophomore year at LOLC and REC. I was inspired by his faith then; Ian and all of you who post on the site continue to inspire me now. Ian’s continual improvement is a testament to his faith and God’s ability to use someone to teach others – even in the roughest and hardest times. He is a living example of God’s greatness and whether Ian knows it or not, he is still teaching us about God and God’s grace.

Hi Mary, Steve, Ian, and family,
I just spoke to Steve on the phone last week and learned about Ian’s accident. I was so burdened and overcome with grief and sadness. I have been continually praying for Ian and all of you that God would continue to strengthen you and grant you the “peace that passes all understanding.”
I have been consumed with reading all of the blogs written since the accident. I started at October and keep reading from bottom to top to catch me up on all the specific details. (I think I am only up to about March, even though I took a sneak preview of the last blogs to keep me up to speed.) It is amazing how when someone wrote a specific need to pray for, it seemed like in the next blog or so, that prayer was answered. Of course, I have been praying along with all of you through each blog, although these things have already happened. You never know what the Lord can do…we are the ones caught up in time and space…but God is not in the box that we try and put Him in.
I have to let you know that the Lord is so faithful, as you know. As I have been reading the blogs, I have been touched and blessed over and over again. I have been so encouraged in your faithfulness and trust in the Lord. Let there be no doubt that Ian’s life and this trial, have deeply touched the lives of so many people and drawn them closer to the Lord and stronger in their faith!!! It has done this for me. Know that Ian’s life, and his suffering have not been in vain, but it has accomplished what the Lord set out for it to do.
You will continually be in my thoughts and prayers. I sent out an email to all of our sister churches here to pray for Ian, and he has been added to our intercessors’ prayer list.
Love, prayers, and blessings,
Tammy Carter 🙂

Hi, I’m a friend of Jesse Kisic’s mom, MaryAnn. We’ve been friends since Jr High. She told me about Ian, and I want him to know that I will be praying for him, too. I’m a nurse and have seen many miracles. Recently, I had a very close relative die in an auto accident, but the young man she was with survived. He was in a coma for a couple months, but he has come out of that. He’s still got a long way to go, but each day he shows some improvement. I know prayer had a lot to do with that. God is awesome! He has helped me through many rough times. Have faith, believe and He will show the way!

Hey Ian and family
I wanted to let you know how God is working through this site just in our family. We have had a year that has been interwoven with trials and suffering, admist many, many blessings. A friend of mine emailed me a link to your site and I feel it was really just the Lord. Trusting in the sovereignty of God, His mercy and loving kindness, even in difficult situations serves us so to build our faith. You ALL have been such an example of how to not just live by sight, but by faith. I thank God for you Ian and your family and will continue to pray and thank the Lord in advance that he will wake you up. I am a labor and delivery nurse and see miracles every day, and know how nothing is impossible with God, but without faith it is impossible to please God. Well He must be well pleased with all of you. Thank You

Please take a look at Thurman Scrivner’s testimony of how he prayed for his granddaughter’s complete healing. His wife and daughter were killed in a car accident, and the baby was in critical condition, disfigured and on the verge of death.
He stood on the promises of John 15:7 and John 16:23-24 and saw complete healing.

While on vacation in Pennsylvania I saw a vehicle with “prayforian.com” on it. I have thought of it many times in the last few months but just now looked it up. You have done a wonderful job in your invitation to pray and acknowledge God in all His sovereignty in these difficult days. Be assured that God will be reminding many of us to pray for Ian! I will check your reports often as God’s plan for Ian and for his family and friends unfolds.
Thank you for reminding me how far reaching a plea for prayer can go.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I pray for Ian everyday, this website has been an inspiration to me and has helped me understand the power and grace of our lord even more.

I just read about Ian and through his story and your faithfulness I have been very encouraged!
Lord I lift my brother Ian to you. As you have sustained him for these past years I know you will continue to sustain him. You are a faithful Father to your children, everything is in Your hands and we know that nothing, nothing can separate us from Your love. I pray Lord that You will continue to be glorified through this situation. Through Ian’s life, Your name will be praised and others will see your Holiness. I do pray for his family and his girlfriend that you will continue to comfort them, that You will continue to give them strength. Oh Lord let your name be hollowed and let others see Your Son. In Christ name…Amen

Please know I continue to pray for Ian’s recovery and for everyone for strength to perservere as we wait for God to intervene and bring Ian back.
I came across something that Paul Tripp wrote on his blog (I think everyone has a blog! and yes there is a picture of him with his crazy mustache!) about waiting that I hope will encourage you as it has encouraged me.
“Waiting on God isn’t to be viewed as an obstruction in the way of the plan. Waiting is an essential part of the plan. For the child of God, waiting isn’t simply about what I’ll receive at the end of my wait. No, waiting is much more purposeful, efficient, and practical than that. Waiting is fundamentally about what I’ll become as I wait. God is using the wait to do in and through me exactly what he’s promised. Through the wait he’s changing me. By means of the wait he’s altering the fabric of my thoughts and desires. Through the wait he’s causing me to see and experience new things about him and his kingdom. And all of this sharpens me, enabling me to be a more useful tool in his redemptive hands.”
I love how Paul reminds that everything is in God’s hands and that he does not waste anything, including waiting. It is all part of His good and sovereign plan for us in making us a more useful tool for Him.
“Wait for Lord, be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” – Psalm 27:14

And an aside… I had a dream with Ian in it the other night. He was standing across a parking lot just waving at me as me and my hubby passed by. I remember thinking that he was just so funny in his sense of humor and how good it was to see him well again. Can’t wait to see this dream happen.

The blogs of your progress is so encouraging to me, and I know God has a plan bigger than anyone could ever dream- God will carry on with your plan, and I believe he has great things in store for you. I know we were never very close or even good friends, but we grew up together and that’s something special. I’ll keep praying for you:-)

We’ve been praying for you for over a year. We know your grandparents (the Bergers) and I am your sister’s great aunt – and I guess that makes me yours, by adoption (in more ways than one, since we’re all adopted into God’s family). I just wanted you to remember:
“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them.” (Psalm 139:14-16)
We’re praying for you, Ian!

Hey Ian, wsup dawg? This is Dave. I just want you to know that I believe God will wake you up. I might be wrong, and if I am you can just blame me, but I really sincerely believe that Jesus Christ will call you to get up and be fully healed. He is such a good God, full of compassion and mercy, abounding in steadfast love, and He loves you so much. He really does. He is a sovereign God who has the power to heal fully and completely, and healing is something He loves to do because it demonstrates His glory, His sovereignty, most importantly His love. He is love; its His character. It is more likely that you will get healed than that you won’t, and I believe you will.
Ian, know that I’ve prayed for you approx 99.3% of the nights since the accident, with that fraction of % missed because I am absent minded sometimes and forget -I’m sure you remember that I am a pretty absent minded Persson considering that I would come over to your house and go off and play video games by myself most of the time back in the day. If I remember right, you were the one who usually got us together to do something, like town, or make a movie, or football. Thanks for breaking me from my idols in a fun, memorable way. You helped me see that there is something more to life than staring blankly at a screen all day. You are a good QB.- so I get others that I am with and we pray for you together. I have counted at least twenty people -that is a very conservative estimate and I know it is a lot more than that, but you know that I always was a timid child-, some of whom remember you from when you visited us in Fredericksburg, that have prayed with me for you, and I will continue to seek every opportunity I can to get people around me to pray for you because I want to see you fully healthy here again in Fredericksburg, not just in my dreams -which I have had three-, but in the flesh, so you can joke and I can laugh. God is good to us; your still here, and He loves you so much.
Larissa, it was good to meet you, and it is better to see your faithfulness. The way you have been so faithful to the Murphy family shows me so much of the type of person you are and encourages me in the Lord. When God looks at you He smiles. You really bless Him and Ian.
Murphy fam, you are the best weekend family a young lad could ever have growing up. You have no idea how much you have steered me towards the Lord. I would have been one depressed kid growing up without you all in my life, and that’s a fact. I did not have many friends, but the friends I had were the best kind. I also would have never had experienced the joy of Mrs. Murphy’s glorious homemade bread. Mmmm says it all. I miss you guys, and the bread, and movie maker on your computer. You were and are a truly Christ centered family, and that is contagious. I feel very privileged to have experienced that, and I praise Christ for it.
You will all always be in my prayers and in my prayer requests even more than 99.3% of the days. I love you all very much, and Christ loves you very very much. Hes got me beat, but in my mind I think were pretty close because I have received so much love from Him and from you. Isn’t He so good? Isnt He God? Isnt God good?
Love, as always
Dave
P.S. Ian, I have one of your shirts still. You left it here a like 3 years ago, and I have been reluctant to give it back because I like it. I hope its ok that I hung on to it for a while, but if you want it back Ill give it back. I must admit though that I did put a few stains on it and faded it some -lucky its a dark grey shirt- and I know how you like things clean. I think I may have stretched it out too, though I don’t know how considering that I am still as scrawny as ever. I sowwy.

Ian and family,
I have asked about you through my daughter-in law Nicki W, my prayers go out to you and all who support you in your recovery. God does wonderful things we just need to keep our faith and NEVER give up.When bad things happen to good people it shows us the love around us that we never knew excisted-it makes us all stronger and closer to God, because sometimes we forget God is with us always—He is our strength in times like these.
May the love and peace of our Lord be with you and keep you all strong.I have faith that we will continue to see great things.
Stay strong, thank you for sharing your story, through all this you are also helping others.

Darkness : Light
by TGG (Sarah M. Bosse)
07.02.08 Midnight
I pray that this poem will bless you as I continue to lift the Murphy family up in prayer. God knows. God knows. TGG
Darkness : Light
The pain
The uncomparable starkness
Of the unmentionable darkness
The unrelenting sharpness
That devides body and soul
The thorn in my flesh
That will give me no rest
And daily puts me to the test
To see if I will sink below
Blacker than night
This darkness I fight
Only One can make it right
And restore the peace I want to know
Here I come
I humbly bow
Before the King of Kings
Right now
Turn my darkness into brightest white
For to You, darkness is as light
Ah what a beautiful sight
To see Your hand working through my night
I know that You have said
You are the lifter of my head
And even on my deathbed
I will find life again
And the thorn that pierced so deeply
And made me gasp and weep – see!
It fits perfectly into the holes of His pierced hands!
For there is no rose that is born
Without the presence of a thorn
Though my body may be worn
My spirit will surely be reborn
So Lord be glorified this way
As you make night shine bright as day
And give strength to help me today
Keep following You in Your way
One day this terrifying sadness
Will be replaced with rapturous gladness
And this situation I thought madness
Will proclaim His handiwork
He brings rivers into the wilderness
Cool waters that dispell the dryness
I come quickly without shyness
To reap of His lovingkindness

From the Word of the Lord:
Isaiah 35
3 Strengthen the weak hands,
and make firm the feeble knees.
4 Say to those who have an anxious heart,
Be strong; fear not!
Behold, your God
will come with vengeance,
with the recompense of God.
He will come and save you.
5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
and the ears of the deaf unstopped;
6 then shall the lame man leap like a deer,
and the tongue of the mute sing for joy.
For waters break forth in the wilderness,
and streams in the desert;
7 the burning sand shall become a pool,
and the thirsty ground springs of water;
in the haunt of jackals, where they lie down,
the grass shall become reeds and rushes.

Hello, Ian and the entire Murphy family. I was in a small group with your Mom and Dad when I went to IUP in the 90’s. I still have the comforting Psalm 91 card your mom gave to me. I’ve been drawn to this link by the Lord. Praying for your complete and total restoration in His perfect timing. 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 says: 3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. 6If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort. I pray that you will not only be surrounded by His perfect comfort but that you’d also be able to be a comfort to those around you with your smile. v. 6 "Godliness with contentment is great gain…..

God Bless you all as you do this!

I just heard your story in Chris Fabry live.. and it made me cry.
I have been through something similar to what you are going through… When I was 23 God led me to marry a man with Leukemia. I loved him very much, but if anyone would have told me in life that I would do this I would tell them they are nuts!!!
I am not going to tell u that it was easy but it was awesome. I learned things and grew in so many ways that I can't even describe.
I did not get long with my husband, only 21 months but they were the best of my life, and from what I was able to read later in his journals I was the answer to his cries out to Go d to not go through this alone… Wow God chose me??? That still baffles me to this day.
He is gone over 20 years now, but there is not a day that goes by that I do not use what I have learned in my experience…
I am telling u all this to say .. do not be afraid, trust God even if u have no idea where the next step will take you. HE does!!!
Also be prepared in the future to pass it on.. all u have been through is not entirely for u.. sometime , somewhere there will be multiple opportunities to use what u have learned and are going through.. IT is AWESOME ENJOY THE JOURNEY!!
God Bless U Both!!!

Dear Ian and Larissa,
I am so encouraged, strengthened, and filled with joy as I read through your blogs. Today my girlfriend introduced me to your story and I've been shocked by the amazing loving commitment that you've both shown. The greatest thing is that the love of our God is radiating from the both of you in so many ways. I'm sure you both still ask "why" questions, or for what specific purpose God has intended this all for the betterment of His kingdom and the conformity to Christ (Rom. 8:28-29). And, to that I'm sure you both are daily discovering the gracious mysteries of God through your sufferings. However, I just wanted to tell you that your story has deeply moved me in a difficult time in my life. I've been pursuing marriage with my girlfriend for awhile and we are still waiting till a few things fall in place. One key thing is that I must become a man ready for marriage; ready to sanctify her with the Word and love her always. To that affect, I want to let you know Ian that after reading many of the blog posts that I have learned from your souls desire to point Larissa to Christ always and being so faithful has greatly rebuked and exhorted me to Christ-likeness, and for that I am indebted to you. And Larissa, after reading of your unwavering resolve to be lovingly committed to Ian through such times and most importantly relying on the goodness of God's sovereign will, you have brought it to my attention that my girlfriend would most certainly do the same for me if such an accident occurred with me. From this I am more able to see the love that she has for me, and that I should be far more loving towards her as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. To conclude, I hope to include you joyfully in every prayer of mine from this day forward because of you both being true partakers of the grace found in Christ. May your marriage be blessed with joy and peace, founded and established upon the glorious gospel of grace. To God be the glory, for Christ's sake. I love you both, thank you so much.

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus

I somehow stumbled across your blog while wedding shopping (of all the things!) and you've left an invaluable imprint on me. Thank you both for sharing your hearts because it has helped guide my own heart back to the place where it has been wanting to be…with our awesome God. You've been in my (now stronger and more faithful) prayers every since I heard your story. Cheers to you both and thank you so-so much! In unexpected ways, you are making a difference in other's lives. 🙂

Ian & Larissa,
I have been so touched by your story. I have been praying ever since I stumbled upon your wedding photos {absolutely adored the dresses}
Many times I have been moved to tears reading your blog updates. I was so challenged by the man of integrity and faith that Steve was. I am challenged by your courage and hope.
I pray God continues to bring you comfort, peace and strength for the journey ahead. I pray that there will be miracles and that God's name would be glorified in the testimony.

Lord I pray over Ian and Larissa. Give Ian the vision You have for him each and every day to grow in his relationship with You and to grow in his role as a husband. My heart grows heavy for Larissa though, Lord. I pray you give her more and more hope every day. As she wakes up to certain days of despair, tiredness, and weariness, show her how much of an inspiration her and Ian have been to thousands of people. Give her comfort in knowing that this is Your purpose and each day she lives is a journey she takes on to Spread your love through Ian's disability. Give them courage to press on, to keep running the race. Your hand is tight and your grip will not loosen. In Your name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged!

I was in a hunting accident in October, and lost sight in my right eye. At first I was unwilling to pray for my sight to be regained, because I was sure that it would never happen, and I didn't want to lose hope.
Your story has been just one more affirmation since I decided to just pray anyway, knowing that God alone can heal me, but even if he doesn't…He is good.
SO encouraged by your story. Praying for you every Wednesday starting today.

Knowing a little bit of what's to come (about Steve's passing and the marriage), it's been incredible to see God's hand carrying all of you in 'fast forward.' Yours is truly a beautiful life in a world of distractions. Thank you for helping me love God more and fix my eyes on heaven.

I saw your story on GodVine through FB. I will be praying for you and your family and will share your story so others may benefit from it. God has special plans for you two. Your faith proves that everything happens for a reason, even though most times, when our hearts are breaking, we can't see the big picture. Continue to have strong faith in the Lord and you will be richly rewarded, if not here, on Earth, then in Heaven. I just came across your video and searched the internet for any updates on Ian's condition. I'm happy to find this blog 🙂 My family is praying for both Ian and you Larissa. I thank God for your willingness to share your story. I am certain that your testimony of love and faith has and will continue to impact marriages for quite sometime. Quite amazing how God uses us, even when we might feel "unusable". The two of you are truly amazing and a wonderful example of Christ's unselfish, unconditional love. 🙂

I came across your story on FB today and am so thankful that I did. I am a born again Christian and am married to a wonderful, godly man and have 2 precious children however, I spent some time praying by the lake this morning, frustrated with current circumstances we face and the strains of every day life of raising a family and asked the Lord to "speak" to me to grant me some encouragment in a seemingly discouraging time. The rest of the day He seemed to be silent. By the end of the evening I came across your story via a link on FB. I tend to pass by the stories or links on FB however I believe the Lord sovereignly led me to click on the link and watch the video of your story and for that I am grateful. So much I would love to say but I shall try to keep it to a minimum. In short, it was a wake up call for me, a revealing of my own heart and a jolt I needed to refocus on the Lord and to be thankful for where I am, what I have and what He is doing. I am amazed at what God is doing in your life and how He has graciously strengthened you both to live life to the fullest, to be thankful and continue to persevere in His strength each day, even on those days where you want to throw in the towel. God's love and grace is so rich in your lives and He is using that to minister to so many, including a fellow sister in Christ in a small town in Ontario, Canada. I will lift you up in my prayers Ian, and you as well my dear sister in Christ, Larissa. The Lord bless you and protect you and give you continued strength, peace and unspeakable joy as you continue to run the race for His glory!
Prayers, love and blessings,

Ian I am so thankful for your faith and the encouragement I have gained from it. I teach Bible to 8th grade girls and 10th grade boys and girls at a Christian school. I showed both groups the video and we were able to have some great discussion. I will be praying for you and am anxiously waiting to see all God will do.

the faith that you two are walking out is (simply, and also not so simply) inspiring, to say the least. what glory you, larissa must bring to our God, and what honor ian must bring to Him in his statement through trial that "God is awesome". i pray for you two, for ian's complete healing, (and) if God is more glorified in circumstance the way it is now, that He would continue to equip you two in boundless measure: strength, wisdom, and grace. thank you for sharing your story so openly, and letting those of us who do not know you personally see the glory of God that is worthy through good and bad in you two. 🙂 much love; nashville, tn

Good to know that there are people like you who reflect the kingdom of our God, even at a young and with so many reasons not to do it, because this is the world we live. I'm sure that God is using your life to teach many people about love and dependence upon the Lord. Thank you for sharing your story. I am praying. Elisa Tostes, Rio de Janeiro – Brazil

Dear Ian and Larissa,
It has been such a blessing to our souls to hear of the great testimony that the Lord is weaving together in your lives. We recently watched the video of your marriage and read your posts on Piper's website during our marriage series. Your story has touched our lives and many in our church. Though there may be days that are tough always remember this:
Isaiah 43:1b-3a
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by my name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior."
How great is this promise that the Lord will preserve us through the many trials that come our way. May the Lord strengthen and renew your souls one day at a time.

Lydia, the 13-year-old daughter of friends, was struck by a large truck while getting off her school bus on 17 May. Lydia was thrown 100' by the impact, landing on the highway. She is still in a coma, but small improvements are showing. She still has no sight and cannot speak, and of course the prognosis is uncertain.
Please Pray For Lydia

I discovered this blog as my husband and I are nearing our 24th wedding anniversary.
It has been a marriage of "true love" and "Christ centered love" that has recently been so battered by the circumstances of life, and the enemy of our soul…
I have found myself at times surrounded in darkness and then I found your video with Piper's quotes…
and it is true. There have been days where nothing but Christ could sustain our marriage, and your video gives loving evidence to the strength of committed christian love. God Bless!

Dear Ian and Larissa,
I've never met you and probably never will this side of heaven. Going through my own trials in my daily walk with the Lord, your posts are a place where I go to when discouragement hits me. Why? Because you're heroes? No and yes! It's so encouraging to see GOD in your life! You stand – more often than we know, with feeble knees, but still steadfast, because you stand on the Rock! That makes you both heroes! Keep on keeping on! Don't give up!

Here is an update on my comment of 24.6.12
Dear Ian and Larissa,
One thing has not changed … PrayForIan is still open in my browser all the time, and I continue to check it morning and evening for updates.
Lydia spent two months in a coma, then gradually was released from it to the point she could be moved out of acute care to a rehab hospital. Two months later she was allowed weekend visits home to see her younger brothers and to have some friends come to see her.
Because Lydia's home visits had been going so well, and because her return to the rehab hospital was becoming more emotionally traumatic for her, this past week she was returned home for good, with local rehab providers coming to her family home, and Lydia visiting a local rehab office one day a week to use equipment that cannot be brought to her.
She still has "a long row to hoe" [her extended family
are all market gardeners!] and her Mum and Dad often cause her frustration by having to ask her to repeat things over and over until they can understand what she is trying to say … but progress is happening, little by little.
No one knows how much she will come back to her former self, nor what the new Lydia will be like, but she continues to surprise and delight with tiny fragments of old memories coming to the fore from time to time.
Please Pray For Lydia
With every blessing to you both, and thanks to God for the great inspiration you provide to all of us who follow you here.
