We think he can read!!
Two speech therapists were in today and were trying to find out if he can read. They tried getting him to point to one of two words (large and in caps) on two separate sheets of paper. They had difficulty finding the right spot for him to be able to see the words, but with a pointing device he was able to point to the correct answer to their questions. For example, he pointed to Larissa’s name or to Lydia’s name when asked. When they asked him to point to his sister’s name, he pointed to Lydia’s name. What this means is that he appears to be both reading and comprehending.
He didn’t last long with the exercise (fatigue comes easily to him), but they felt he was successfully communicating a correct choice 70% of the time. Their goal now is to help him to be consistent with the exercise. It would be huge if he could do it consistenly. It would mean we could communicate with him.
Thank you, Lord. Pray for Ian.

What an encouraging discovery in this month of September. I am praying for Ian to wake up before the end of the month. May the Lord bless and sustain each of you as you serve Ian so tirelessly and with such hope. — Carolyn

Praise the Lord! I literally got goosebumps when I read this post. I am constantly amazed at God’s care and the miracles we witness each and every day – beginning with Ian’s survival of the accident to his health and just the glimpses and confirmation that Ian is still with you. Thank you for the witness you are to all who read this blog and your faith and trust in the Lord and His plan for your lives. To God be all praise and glory!
I am continuing to pray.

I have been struggling with my own faith over the last while and haven’t engaged in the discipline of fasting for a very long time but I joined with you in fasting for Ian on Wednesday – what a fantastic answer to prayer! I feel very encouraged by this and also by the example of your faithfulness to God during this last year. I’ll keep praying for Ian. Love to you all, Carol

What beautiful news!! Ian is “there” and it is just a matter of “when” the Lord feels it’s time to bring him back! I have faith that Ian will return to you all, as the old Ian you knew! God is sovereign and knows everything! God bless you all for this encouraging news and for your faithfulness with Ian.

In Christ Alone
In Christ alone Ian’s hope is found,
He is his light, his strength, his song;
This corner stone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What height of love, what depth of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
Ian’s comforter, his all in all,
Here in the love of Christ Ian will stand.
I’m dancing! Leenie (Eileen)
