We are losers….
….for not posting and freely admit that we are losers. Haven’t felt “inspired” lately to post, but we do want to keep everyone updated and are very thankful to everyone who reads and prays.
Ian had a somewhat home-bound week. His chair broke in a reclined position and has now been through two replacement chairs until his real one is fixed. The first chair was awful and didn’t allow us to get out much but this second one is better. He had acquatic therapy again on Friday and did a great job. His therapist there is really, really tough on him but therapy isn’t meant to be fun and he needs to be pushed. He responds well to her and does what she asks.
Ian has been eating a lot by mouth lately- so much so that we can sometimes eliminate his tube feedings for a meal. And he sure still loves a good iced coffee or cold beer.
Specific prayers would be continued improvement on his communication with us
Thank you for your prayers. Praying that that we don’t have to surpass the two-year mark…

Even though I don’t know you guys, I love to pray for you!! I love to because I know you will experience answers to those prayers, and it gives me great joy to imagine the changes and developments that God in his grace will provide. My brother is quadraplegic from Cerebral Palsy and I know firsthand how precious every development is, especially those in the realm of communication and of drinking coffee and beer!! Continued prayers!!!

Losers? You’ve got to be kidding! I check your blog almost everyday, but rarely comment. I consider myself the loser. You’ve opened the curtain so that I/we your readers get a glimpse into your lives and how God is sustaining you through this tradedy. I pray that you know/feel the tender care of the Father for you in the midst of it. Father, please continue to heal Ian.

So good to read of Ian’s progress!
It’s great to hear that he is continuing to respond to the water therapy and that he is eating “a lot” by mouth…like what?
Iced coffee and cold beer…two acquired tastes that I never acquired!
🙂
But, I’m glad that Ian can enjoy them!
Still Praying!

Larissa, I really appreciate your honesty and courage. Not many young women would have the courage to stick it out like you do…it truly is a sign that the grace of our kind heavenly Father is mightily at work in you. He is good, and although this life does not promise that all will go well, God’s Holy Spirit will sustain you, will keep you, will guide you, and even when you are the most weak, He will use you to glorify His Son. I pray that our faith would grow…that we would all cry even more desperate prayers for Ian. I know, as you know too, that no matter what happens, God will surely use this for all our good…may His name alone be praised…He is King. Love, The Wengers @ Living Hope in Hbg.

This video made me think of Ian and gave me hope. It’s been a long road, and it might still be a long road ahead, but there is hope in full recovery through Jesus Christ.

I am currently reading a book by Henry J. M. Nouwen called Life of the Beloved”. It is based biblically on Matt 3:16-17 at the baptism of Jesus. No Sooner had Jesus come up out of the water than he saw the heavens torn apart and the spirit, like a dove, descending on him. And a voice came from heaven: You are my Son, the Beloved; my favor rest with you. The book was written to reach young people in todays culture that are searching for God. Nouwren uses the idea of being Gods beloved to explain our divine relationship as Christians. In being His “beloved” we go beyond just chosen to being dearly loved. The beauty of it all of course is that all anyone has to do is simply accept God sovereignty in his or her life. For it is not in a mindset of superiority to others that we are dear to God’s heart but of inferiority to God’s majesty.
There is one chapter under the heading of becoming the Beloved that is called Broken. Ians wheelchair sort of reminded me of this. The author goes on to say that even people like things can be thought of as broken or have brokenness in becoming the beloved. A quote from this chapter
The great spiritual call of the Beloved Children of God is to pull their brokenness away from the shadow of the curse and put it under the light of blessing. This is not as easy as it sounds. The powers of the darkness around us are strong, and our world finds it easier to manipulate self-rejecting people than self-accepting people. But when we keep listening attentively to the voice calling us Beloved, it becomes possible to live our brokenness not as a confirmation of our fear that we are worthless but as an opportunity to purify and deepen the blessings that rest upon us.
I hope you may find the comfort that I have in this.
