Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Matthew 6:26

Today while I was driving to work I noticed a robin grabbing a twig off the ground. It then flew away to what I supposed to be its nest. Then I noticed two more birds, who were hunting for a much longer time, and even though I had to keep driving, I knew that they would find twigs to build a nest as well.

I was reminded of this scripture as well as the truth that God cares enough for birds that he would provide them with twigs for a nest. But while the first bird found a twig right away, the other two didn’t. It took them longer. They had to hunt longer before they found their twigs. God didn’t give them their twig right away. But he still gave it to them.

Ian has had to hunt longer for his twigs. He has had to wait much longer than most people to receive answers to prayer, and some still haven’t been answered yet. He isn’t able to just hop outside, find a twig, and build his nest. He has had to wait 24 years, and continues to wait, to be able to build the life that he’s been praying for.

I’m praying for faith that God will give us a future that is brighter than today and let us build our life as we have prayed. And I’m praying for grace if He doesn’t. And, by God’s grace, I don’t ever want to stop praying for Ian to be completely, 100% healed. In a breath.

Thank you, always

I was reading Larissa’s post on this blog from April 14th (just 5 days ago), and a couple of her comments got my attention: Ian wanted prayer that he would be able to think clearly and logically and that his memory would improve, because it affects how he communicates to us. I went back to April 14th from two years ago and these were the things that were notable then for publishing on the blog:

  • He had his eyes open when she visited…it had been a few days since she had seen him do that.
  • He put his hand in a gift bag and pulled out the tissue paper and gift. It was so exciting to see him do something so functional, she said!
  • He reached for her arm.
  • He slept more than he was awake.
  • He seemed to be aware of what was going on around him.

The Lord has been kind to us to spare Ian’s life and to restore him to us as much as He has, and how much He has done! Wow!

Thank you for your prayers!

Steve

Thank you everyone who has sent an email to Ian. I’m hoping to put a little notebook together for him, so if you haven’t already, here is what I’m asking:

Thursday is Ian’s birthday. I didn’t tell him that I was doing this, but if you could take the time, please write an email to him about one way that you have been pointed to Christ by Ian’s life- what you have been taught about God through Ian’s life, how your prayer life has been impacted, etc. Please email these to prayforian@gmail.com and include where you are from. I’ll probably be giving this to him after his birthday, so continue to send emails on Thursday if you can.

I’d love to bless Ian with reminder’s of how this trial is about so much more than just us.

Thank you, always.

Happy Easter

Thankful to spend a weekend celebrating Christ’s death on the cross as two ransomed sinners. We don’t deserve the mercy that was shown to us at the cross.

Sorry that we haven’t posted for awhile. Ian and I are working on one though and will hopefully get it posted soon.

Thank you for praying

Ian asked that we pray for his initiation. It’s textbook brain injury to have trouble with initiating, and Ian definitely does. He and I have been praying specifically that God would help him to begin initiating talking, starting conversations, asking for things that he needs, etc.

Please pray with us that we would see Ian grow abundantly in this area.

I’m fasting today *wednesday* if anyone would like to join me.

Thank you, always.
