monday

By admin,

“Good morning. It’s Monday,” I greeted him as his eyes opened slowly.

“A new week.”

“Yep. What are your expectations?”

“I want to greet it with open arms,” he said.

So this man, waiting for someone to help him out of the bed and into the shower, will greet the week, openly and with thanksgiving. Much different than my own thoughts were and for him, I’m thankful.

happy monday.

another good one

By admin,

mary and i recently read “The Devil in Pew Number Seven” separately and had a little bit of trouble putting it down. it attracted me in the book store because it didn’t look like the other Christian books surrounding it. i’ve also been looking for other memoirs to help me form my words and inspire our words and help build our story.

what happened in rebecca’s life is unreal.

the forgiveness she continually extends is unreal.

you can download it here.

the small things

By admin,

it may not seem like that big of a deal. maybe no one even noticed at the restaurant.
but today, for the first time in six years, I got to sit next to Ian in a restaurant booth.
no wheelchair between us.
no awkwardly sitting on the corner of the table to reach his fork to our plate.
no arm rest digging into my ribs to help him eat.
no knee folded underneath me making me tall enough to reach him.
no wheelchair anti tippers sticking out into the aisle tripping the waitresses and waiters.
just us.
transferred to a booth.
shoulder to shoulder.
holding hands.
having date night.
sometimes it’s the smallest things that are enough to keep us going.

to one of many

By admin,

we first crossed paths in a journalism class, maybe magazine publishing, and then were officially introduced at our campus ministry.

then we both found boyfriends.

and then Matt proposed on valentines day.

and then I stood with her at the altar.

and then this pretty little lady, pictured far left, ROTC grad along with her hubby, spent the rest of her 20s on two active duty tours for our country – one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.

my cyndi you are one of many from our generation who deserve much and many thanks.

happy Veterans Day, to you and your hubby.

love

stepping heavenward

By admin,

this may have been posted by us before, but while trying to motivate my own words to leave my mind and jump onto the page, i found myself on this paragraph again. it’s in an old favorite, “stepping heavenward,” by elizabeth prentiss.
“and now if you ask how you may know that you have truly consecrated yourself to him, i reply, observe every indication of his will concerning you, no matter how trivial, and see whether you at once close in with that will. lay down this principle as law – God does nothing arbitrary. if He takes away your health, for instance, it is because He has some reason in doing so; and this is true of everything of value; and if you have real faith in Him, you will not insist on knowing the reason.”

as a river

By admin,

“I will sing of your mercy that leads me through valleys of sorrow to rivers of joy”

someday we will see and know and wade in rivers of joy. if i can believe that mercies carry me through this life, each moment would be sweet.

it’s Wednesday, for fasting.

grateful.

our story

By admin,

we met in college in 2005. we started dating then, too. love came quickly and how fun it was.

in september of 2006, on his way to work to earn money for a ring, ian’s car slammed under an SUV. along with part of his brain, it took the plans that we had made. and left us with a brain injury.
but then came eight twenty eight.
“and we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
God held us.
ian’s dad, steve, was a regular writer on the blog after the accident, along with me, larissa. then on october 8, 2009, steve met God after a six-week battle with brain cancer.
steve’s birthday is eight twenty eight. our wedding day is eight twenty eight, made official four years after the accident.

we write this blog because we love each other and we love God.
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
