our anniversary

By The Murphys,

Sitting on the couch, the night before our anniversary – it’s not glorious but it’s what The Lord has given us. And it’s what I wanted for years.

Tomorrow, hundreds of people will read about our life when the book releases. It’s exposing, but good.

Tomorrow is our anniversary.

Here’s to Larissa sticking it out for another 12 long months. They’ve been the best 12 months of my life, because I’m with the one I love.

Four years down and a lifetime to go, Squirt. I love you.

Therefore it is that god’s people pass through great tribulation; therefore is is they are often called upon to suffer the sting of affliction and anxiety, or weep over the grave of those whom they have loved as their own soul. it is their Father’s hand that chastens them; it is thus He weans their affection from things below and fixes them on himself; it is thus He trains them for eternity, and cuts the threads one by one that bind their wavering hearts to earth. No doubt such chastening is grievous for the time, but still it brings many a hidden grace to light, and cuts down many a secret seed of evil; and we shall see those who have suffered most shining among the brightest stars in the assembly of heaven. the purest gold is that which has been longest in the refiner’s furnace. the brightest diamond is often that which has required the most grinding and polishing. but our light affliction endureth but for a moment, and it worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. the saints are men who have come out of great tribulation- they are never left to perish in it. the last night of weeping will soon be spent, the last wave of trouble will have rolled over us, and then we shall have a peace that passeth all understanding; we shall be at home for ever with the lord.

Ian said he is doing well here at the hospital. He asked for prayer that he would make a lot of progress while he’s here.

Thanks for praying for us.

Cancer is Not in the Bible

By admin,

Cancer is not in the Bible, but death is. We have ways of forestalling death, even death from cancer. They had the ability to forestall my death a little longer, and I’m amazed that I’m still alive. But, some day my death is going to come. I’m so grateful the Bible teaches me what God did to save me from death. I’m so grateful that I don’t have to be deserving in order to gain Christ.

Brushing so near to death and facing it so near in my future, I now a have renewed interest in asking those of you who read our blog if you’re trusting in God’s solution for death.

Steve

Note: On Monday the doctors officially diagnosed him with cancer. The average life expectancy of people with this kind of cancer is 14 months after diagnosis.

Ian seems to be feeling better today, but still not 100%. It might be morphing into a head cold. But, God graciously allows him to sleep through any discomfort.

Thank you for praying.

Faith is about focus

By admin,

There are a lot of ideas out there about faith, but so many of the ideas aren’t helpful. So many ideas only obscure my view of God. The eyes of my faith can’t focus on the object of my immediate desire which in this case would be for Ian to be healed. No amount of verbal or mental claims for his healing will actually bring Ian back. I also can’t focus on how much faith I have for that desired outcome, carefully adjusting my wording or my thought life to get the right formula. If Ian’s return is dependent on how much “faith” I can muster (I have to be honest), we’ll never see his return. My focus must remain on the only One who is almighty, who can do whatever he desires, yet who is kind and merciful and all-wise.

~~~~~
Lord, help me to keep my eyes fixed on you. Let me rest in your wise care and strong arms. Life is hard, but our days are in your hands. One day this will all be over, and we’ll eat and have fellowship with you for eternity. The meal is ready. I can’t wait.
~~~~~
Ian is struggling, it seems. I’m not sure why. Please pray for encouragement and motivation. Thank you for standing with us.
~~~~~
A message from Ian as we talked about god’s ability, but not guarantee, to heal him:
“my affliction has kept me closer to god because im always asking for his help. he’s lord and i’m aware of it.”
i have tons to learn from my husband.
