new year

By The Murphys,

happy 2015, a year that hopefully finds us writing on here more often, out of gratefulness to all of you who pray for us so faithfully.

holiday travels to the mountains and philadelphia have settled and the routines of life are back.

as for ians best christmas gift?  February flights to arizona with two siblings and baby niece to visit two dear friends and actually see the sun. a repeat of our escape to Miami last year- each winter here needs one. and maybe a habit of free date nights throughout the year to make a winter getaway possible is needed, because we need breaks and sun and rest. and honestly, we need it because before it couldn’t have happened. before when he was too sick. and so it’s a celebration.

therapy is on pause for awhile but ian has a personal trainer and we’re praying that it is exactly what he needs right now.

and for me, the wifey, I’m thankful for my job that provides for my best friend and that this best friend loves me a ridiculous amount.

thank you, always.

a new week

By The Murphys,

mondays can be hard, leaving ian to go back into the corporate world and not being in our cozy little home that makes me happy. but this is a new week that amazing things can happen.

im praying this week that ian is given the strength and patience he needs to do well at therapy. I’m praying that I love him better this week than the last, and that he can feel that love.

this week will end with five little ones coming to the bungalow for an early thanksgiving with their mommies and daddies and gammy and grandpa doo. they will fill up the house as full as our hearts that may just burst open because a house filled means there is so much love.

this week will start, and end, exactly as God has planned.

the measure

By admin,

i’ve been waiting for her book, since she mentioned the thesis in a philadelphia restaurant last spring.

she wanted to share the biblical perspective on women’s work, that it’s not defined by location or geography. it’s not defined by diapers or conference calls.

thank you, friend, for writing this.

“as Christians, we are to be grounded in this identity (…a follower of Christ…) even as we add other roles and ways to express that identity in relationship to others. we might have an interesting job for a season. we might be married for a season. we might have children at home for a season.

but those things can be taken away from us or never given to us at all. they are gifts for this life only.

Jesus has promised that if we choose to sit at his feet, we have made the best choice of all. we will inherit the better portion, that which will never be taken away; a relationship with God, his word and the promise of eternal rewards and life with him in heaven. in one simple sentence, Jesus shifts our earthbound perspective and takes us high above our daily lives to see the importance of being His disciple.”

from drywall to suite

By admin,

tonight as i continued to read through old blog posts as i wrote, this caught my eye. it caught my eye because Steve and Mary were so involved in the planning on this room, the design of this room, the amount of sunlight for this room. our church built this room. Steve had talked that maybe one day it would be a space that ian and i could live in together, married. he talked about how we could maybe get a little kitchenette, and make it work.
our suite doesn’t have a kitchenette, but it does work. it’s become a place of respite as we write.

we stayed dry

By admin,

for anyone living on the east coast, this has been a crazy week. fortunately the flooding we had in our room the week before we moved in did not happen last night. thankful for waking up to a dry floor.
ian prayed last night for everyone in the path of the hurricane and we will keep praying for those whose lives have been completely interrupted. it’s a dreary day through our window and are thankful for all of those braver than us who are helping to rescue and rebuild.
tonight is for writing at my new favorite destination. photos to come.

8/28

By admin,

supposedly it takes a village to raise a child. we think it takes one to build a healthy marriage too. gigi and pa paid for our dinner. my parents paid for our room for the surgery. mary watched the kids so that ben and jan could come be with us for dinner. and so even though our anniversary was spent with day-before-surgery injections, we had a wonderful evening escape. even baby scarlett met us in pittsburgh for a lovely outdoor dinner and jazz concert. and now scarlett is officially the cutest fifth wheel.
and we casually mentioned our anniversary to the waitress, who kindly brought us this, pictured sideways.
for all the ways that our family served us, ian says “they’re selfless” and it shows him that God is good.
one final anniversary celebration awaits us – setting off our two lanterns for the number of years we’ve been married when we head back up to our wedding spot next weekend.
for now, we’re off to a week on a lake with the whiteley’s.
we’re continuing to pray for encouraging test results next week and that ian’s wounds heal quickly.
thank you, always

mundane morning – and i couldn’t be happier

By admin,

i have a thing for saturday mornings. and this week, i have been so looking forward to this one. what is sure to be filled with the mundane – bills, actually writing blog posts, tidying up our room – feels like such a gift. i found myself awake much earlier than i would have liked because i was desiring this time so greatly.
and so while he sleeps, in our new bedroom that is not quite yet perfectly arranged, for a few hours our life feels normal.

the big move

By admin,

we did it! with the help of a wonderful church care group, we packed up our house last night, scrubbed walls, and gathered on the porch for a final sharing of memories.
thank you SO MUCH, everyone, for making this move possible.
you’re the best.
a new journey beginning, in so many ways.
