A Birthday Present
My son’s name is David. He’s Ian’s best friend. They’ve been best friends ever since they first learned to fight with each other, sometime after they both were one. They were born six months apart, and ever since either one knew they existed, I don’t think they’ve spent a birthday apart from each other.
David’s birthday is tomorrow, Oct. 11. When Beth asked him what he wanted, he said, “I want Ian to wake up.” Up until now, I’ve always been able to get David what he wanted for his birthday, but this year I can’t. However, we know the One who gave them both physical life and then, more importantly, spiritual life sometime after. I was wondering if anyone who happens to read this might pray with me and my family that Jesus would give him what he wants most for his birthday; his best friend back.
Thanks!

Our God is the One who says, “Ask and you shall receive,” and He does not lie. I’ll be asking with you, and praying Is. 50:4b for Ian: “He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).

I am fervently praying David’s wish comes true. As I was praying today for Ian the Lord reminded of a song I heard a while back. The chorus is from from Eph. 5:14:
“Awake, O sleeper, arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
Praying our sleeper will arise.

Every David needs his Jonathan… “Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself.” 1 Sam 18:3
David needs his Ian yet God, for purposes of His glory, has deemed that the friend who sticks closer than a brother is the One who is walking with and holding both of them in this time. He is the inextricable link between the two of them…and nothing can or will ever separate them…ever.
Ps 133
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brothers to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, Coming down upon the beard, Even Aaron’s beard,
Coming down upon the edge of his robes.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon
Coming down upon the mountains of Zion; For there the LORD commanded the blessing life forever.

the kimmel house contiues to pray. even jer asks when he comes home from school if there is any news. his new school, grace christian school, has been praying, the kids, teachers, and the secretary. birthdays are such landmarks for so many reasons, praying that JESUS will make david’s bd this year a monumental landmark for HIS glory, david’s gift, and a whole lot of joy for a bunch of other folks.

I was reading Psalm 40 in my quiet time this morning and praying for God to grant the b-day wish of David. There are so many rich things in this Psalm but I was particularly struck by the last verse, v 17.
“I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; DO NOT DELAY, O MY GOD.”
My prayer today has been that God would not delay in waking Ian.
